The response of soil microbial communities to the infection of kauri ( Agathis australis ) seedlings with Phytophthora agathidicida

چکیده
New Zealand's ancient kauri (Agathis australis) forests are under threat from the spread of dieback disease, caused by soil-borne pathogen Phytophthora agathidicida. Characterizing response soil microbiota to infection with P. agathidicida is essential identify how they may form a protective invasion and disease expression. This study infected 18-month-old seedlings standardized inoculum load for 6 weeks controlled environmental conditions. Following this, changes in diversity, composition biomass microbial communities associated were characterized using high-throughput 16S rRNA ITS gene region sequencing phospholipid fatty acid analysis. Significant differences found bacterial inoculated non-inoculated seedlings. Furthermore, soils had significantly higher relative abundance bacteria previously reported be plant suppression, which included several members Firmicutes. reductions fungal: finding contrasts previous field-based research that observed an increased diversity fungal diseased old growth forests. Further aims isolate their interactions required us begin selecting potential biocontrol agents against dieback.

Site conditions affect seedling distribution below and outside the crown of kauri trees (Agathis australis)
It has been suggested that plants can change soil characteristics via their litter to favour their own species. The New Zealand kauri tree (Agathis australis) presents an interesting case for studying such a positive feedback between plant and soil because it has a huge impact upon the soil. We hypothesised that, under mature kauri trees, compared with sites outside the projection of the crown,...

15 صفحه اولExtension of New Zealand kauri (Agathis australis) tree-ring chronologies into Oxygen Isotope Stage (OIS) 3
New Zealand kauri (Agathis australis) is both long-lived and sensitive to climate so during the past two decades an extensive network of sites has been sampled for dendrochronological analyses. The network can be divided into three general groups based on the time period they cover— ‘modern’ kauri (MK), late-Holocene kauri (HK) and ‘ancient’ kauri (AK) from before the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM)...
